Santorini: Caldera Trail Guided Hike and Sunset Viewing

1.Santorini: Caldera Trail Guided Hike and Sunset Viewing

★★★★★★★★★★4.9 · 110 reviews · 4.5 hours · from $229Our pick

Walk nearly 10 kilometers from Fira through Firostefani and Imerovigli toward Oia, with caldera views, churches, Skaros Rock, local plants, and a picnic stop. Guides such as Panos, Sophia, Lea, and Wendy add island history and help with the rougher sections. The sunset ends the hike from a hilltop viewpoint away from Oia’s busiest crowds.

“Our guide, Wendy was great!! It was a hot day so all the other participants canceled. My daughter and I had a private tour of the island! She explained much of the history of how the island formed and the various volcanic eruptions through the centuries. She taught us about the churches and how they are run and maintained by families. We had a delicious smoothie and yogurt snack and continued on out of the city on a quiet nature trail to our final spot alongside a church for the sunset. Wendy was friendly, accommodating and informative. We thoroughly enjoyed this activity!”

“We were the only participant of this tour. Our guide was a delightful young guy. Very chatty and informative. Set a great pace and was very aware we had done a lot of steps a few hours before visiting the monasteries .”

Small Group Hiking Sunset in Monolithos

4.Small Group Hiking Sunset in Monolithos

★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 33 reviews · 4 hours (approx.) · from $57Best guided

You’ll hike about 10 km from Monolithos village down to a remote red-sand bay, then climb to Monolithos Castle for sunset. Manuela has led this outing, which includes hotel or apartment pickup, private transfers, hiking equipment, bottled water, and a maximum group of 10. Expect heat, uneven ground, and a solid uphill finish.

“Our group was just me and my hubby with Manuela. Firstly we were picked up from our hotel. The drive to our starting point was ok. Then we hiked for about 9 km: down to a beautiful beach and then back up to Monolithos to see the sunset. The weather was hot but we had enough breaks to make sure we were hydrated. The beach was really nice. And the sunset was amazing. I recommend this but make sure you have good shoes and you are in relatively good shape. Hiking up and down mountains in hot weather is not for everyone. But we really enjoyed this!”
